Annual Report

Annual Report 2006-2007

Chairperson's Report

My first year as Chair of the Association has been significant in that we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the organisation.  Alongside our other usual activities, the anniversary barbecue in September brought together people who had been involved in the association over the years, including the original chair and person responsible, Paula Ware.

This event also brought a small profit to our funds.  Our financial state remains stable and once again there will be no rise in fees this January.

Other events included our visit to the Royal Armouries to watch a joust and learn more about the sport and the training of the horses and knights.  This was very enjoyable with about 20 members attending.  We had the usual Treasure Hunt in May, with the annual quiz and Christmas meal towards the end of the year.

On the bridleways front we have submitted an application for another footpath to be officially upgraded to a bridleway - Boggart Lane.  Thanks to everyone who filled in the evidence forms.  As we know, this can be a long drawn out process but we will keep monitoring the situation and reminding the Council of our application, together with other outstanding ones.

Again, whilst the working parties we have held have been successful, we hope to hold a few more of these this year.  Thanks to everyone who helped in 2006 and we hope to see you again in 2007.

There has been a recent report of locked gates on Chelsea Valley.  We have spoken with the Rights of Way Department about this who have investigated and are trying to find out who is responsible for the gates.  We will be contacting the Council for an update on this situation very soon.

Due to other commitments the website has not developed as we might have wished and its updating has been sporadic in nature.  It is hoped that this year we can make more use of this facility, develop the format of the site and promote the organisation further.

I have also been persuaded by the BHS to become an official volunteer for bridleways in the Halifax area.  Hopefully this will strengthen our position when working on bridleways and campaigning for access in this area.

Finally I would like to thank the committee for their support over the last year.  It is with great regret that Ann Roulson's departure from our committee gets closer daily with her imminent house move to Pocklington.  Her help and support will be greatly missed and I am sure you will join me in wishing her all the best for the future.  If anyone would like to join the committee, we are getting a bit thin on the ground and would welcome some fresh input.

Thank you.
