Working Party Saturday 21 June 2008 at 2.00pm We have set a date for a working party--hopefully the weather will be nice to us. Now we just need a venue. Please let us know if there are any routes that need attention with undergrowth or overgrowth clearance so we can pick a bridleway to work on. We will be setting further dates throughout the year. The dogs running loose at the top of the Magna Via (Dark Lane), which runs from Badger Lane at Hipperholme up to Southowram, appear to have been penned. Please would people still be vigilant and let us know if there is further trouble on this route. The BHS are compiling information about dog attacks as this appears to be a growing problem nationally, so please do let us know about incidents so action can be taken. We have had further reports of problems with cars being parked on the Holmfield Scrapyard bridleway. We have followed up our previous action of contacting the scrapyard owner and Calderdale Council, as there appears to have been no action so far. If you encounter difficulty on this route, please let us know, but also contact the Council. The more reports they have of problem areas, the more likely we are to get a resolution. This track has had problems for a few years now and it would be great if we could get this sorted once and for all. Hollin Greaves Lane at Shibden/Claremount has had one of the obstructions completely removed and the other partially removed. We are to contact the Council and the Highways Department again regarding this and hopefully will get this final blockage removed soon. The route is passable with care but does need properly clearing. We have now carried out the Land Registry Search on Boggart Lane, Hipperholme, and this shows the land is not registered to anyone. Therefore we have to write to the owners of the adjacent properties and post a notice about upgrade application on the route so that this can be progressed. This work will hopefully be completed soon. Chelsea Valley, Hipperholme--we are in the process of compiling evidence forms for this route. At present we are just sorting out the map that needs to be attached to the form as well as devising a guidance sheet to ensure the evidence we gather is as comprehensive as possible. We will then be distributing these for completion. Route maps - We are in the process of highlighting bridleways, byways, unmade roads and proposed upgrades on local maps. We will distribute these to members once they have been completed to show where we can and cannot legally go. Hopefully these will be helpful, particularly in identifying any used routes that are not bridleways and could therefore be upgraded. We will send these out as soon as possible. Pennine Prospects - The Access Department of the BHS wrote to us earlier in the year regarding an application from Pennine Prospects for funding to improve or provide access to various water/reservoir features in the South Pennines. This predominantly covered open access land to the west of Halifax and the BHS were asking for our help in identifying routes that would be desirable. We identified possible routes (around 30) to water features, many encompassing existing paths (not necessarily bridleways) and sent these to the BHS. We will keep you updated as to whether we gain any routes as a result of this. |
